Making Cheese for Beginners

Check out my 3 part tutorial on YouTube for how to make cheese...

Ingredients: 1 gallon milk, 1/4 cup white vinegar, salt, and cheesecloth (or old rag)

how to make cheese

HINT: Repeat the above process but heat to 200 degrees to make ricotta. The leftover liquid can then be used as protein-filled stocks in soups or to make bread or oatmeal.

  1. Thanks for sharing this, I will have to come back to your videos when I have more time! :)
It looks like our recipes are just about the same! We have goats and make this simple cheese whenever we have milk coming out of our ears! :D

  2. Does the goat cheese taste any different than 'regular' milk? I just made it plain (with a little salt) but next time will add some herbs or flavors.

  3. Both cheeses were delicious!

  4. I want to try this! My family eats a ridiculous amount of cheese, so it would be great to make my own. I live on a dairy farm, so we have plenty of free milk. Is it ok to use raw milk?

    1. I'm not 100% sure but in all of the recipes I've read it just specifies NOT to use ultra pasteurized. Raw milk would probably result in creamier cheese but may not last as long as store-bought milk. This was a super easy recipe, and the leftover whey can be used as protein-filled stock in chicken soup.
